June’s Journal: A Perfect Mint Julep Recipe for the Kentucky Derby

With the Kentucky Derby just around the corner, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a refreshing Mint Julep Recipe! Therefore, here’s my simple recipe to get you ready for the Run for the Roses. 🍹🌹

So get ready for Kentucky Derby 2025.

Ingredients:

2 oz Bourbon (choose your favorite!)
3-5 fresh mint leaves (plus a sprig for garnish)
1/2 oz simple syrup (or to taste)
Crushed ice
A splash of water (optional)

Instructions:

Muddle the Mint:
In a glass, gently muddle the fresh mint leaves and simple syrup together. However, be sure not to crush the mint too hard – you just want to release the oils and aroma!
Add the Bourbon:
Pour in the 2 oz of bourbon over the muddled mint mixture.
Ice It:
Fill your glass with crushed ice. I love using plenty of ice so that the Mint Julep stays nice and cold!
Stir and Garnish:
Stir your Mint Julep gently to combine all the flavors, and then garnish with a fresh sprig of mint. Also, you can even give it a quick slap between your hands to release its fragrance!
